Solanas's film is structured through a blending of the figure of Martín Fierro and Juan Domingo Perón, in which the verses of the poem, a symbol of gaucho knowledge of the true nature of Argentina, cross with the speeches of Perón. By overlapping Fierro, a wise and sensible man, with Perón, the latter is characterized as a natural political leader, and something of a political father figure for the nation, the only one capable of leading Argentina toward national dignity.
